Nepal - Kathmandu

Let me first talk about Kathmandu.

The going journey includes transiting at Delhi, then to Nepal.
The tickets were about 630SGD, pretty reasonable I thought.
I was psyched.

We arrived in Kathmandu, the biggest city in Nepal,
which according to what we read online and by our own mental reference,
deem the place as dirty and smelly, one that we wouldn't want to stay for long.

But upon reaching, I see the beauty,
busy and bustling in the day,
and by night it all settles down into a quiet and chilling atmosphere with pubs and bars, live bands and dining places all around. It is a poor country, but being the city, there many difference types of cuisines, at happily low prices. Like we could get 5 star kind of Indian cuisine at 10USD per person? Western, Italian, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, whatever, they have it all.

Unfortunately, plane food was curry and curry, again and again,
One of two meals was fine, but not when ALL meals were curry.

First meal at Kathmandu was at this place called Jokers.
I will never forget because I really liked the food.

One bad thing about food in Nepal is, upon ordering,
it takes a pretty long time for the food to be served, even if the restaurant is empty.

But the good thing is that, the food is fresh.
Amazingly fresh.
There is hardly any processed foods around.
If you order potato wedges, visualize them peeling potato skin in the kitchen.
Order Cheese Spring Roll, visualize them placing cheese and rolling the popiah skin in the kitchen. It is true!

Even when we eat in the mountains, they literally pluck veggies from their farm to cook. Feel quite healthy eating there and I lost 1.5kg, well. nothing to be too happy about cause I think I am gaining it all back this CNY. But my arms and legs are reasonably more toned and I am determined to go on trips like this often to maintain. Must maintain!!

Planning to buy myself a bicycle soon.
I think Singapore is beautiful and I haven't been taking enough time to enjoy it in the past.

K this is cheese spring roll:

Super like:

And the above is Fried Rice with Masala Chicken curry and papadum.
When we did a first tasting, we both went WOW.
It tasted really awesome.

With my stack of 500 rupees. It was so thick and worthless (i think), the money changer literally stapled it together with a huge stapler. Totally disregard whether the notes will spoil or not lor...

The next day we booked a mountain flight to see Mount Everest.
It was a one hour flight, just 12 or 14 people on the plane and all had window seats.

We went by Buddha Air, the most popular airlines for Mountain Flight in Nepal.

The plane that we took

So it's like that, everyone sits alone, all window seats.

While waiting for the plane to take off,

View of Kathmandu from the top

So what happens during the flight is we get to see the mountains from our windows,
then we take turns to go to the front for a good view, which was pretty short IMHO.

超壮观的好不好
By the way, gonna start writing in Chinese sometimes.
And gonna start to read Chinese diligently. It is such a beautiful language with so much meanings that sometimes English can't convey. I can't let it go to waste. Ok, end of digression, back to the mountain pictures.

The color varies because the sun was starting to rise so it looks different at different time and at different angles. It was way more majestic in real life. In pictures, it just looks like erm postcard?

hihi now I can say I have seen Mount Everest and the pictures on all our mineral water bottles: the ice caps. lol

Some street pictures of Kathmandu:

It was overwhelming for me on Day1 cause there was so much to absorb about this place.
Some streets look like it has just been through an earthquake, while others look developed.
One side of the street could be bustling with vendors then the other side of the street people are hanging out their clothes to dry.

Cattles/cows/chickens/goats are just roaming about in the streets and outside doors of homes.

The first morning when I woke up, it was 3 degrees celsius and there was no electricity.
In Nepal, half the time there is no electricity. And even if there is, it is unstable.

There are no left or right lanes on the roads, it is just one big road.

我正在想,以后要去那边摆地摊。应该很好玩。

很难吃的街边食物。

Don't know why my face that day a bit like hamster,
I'd like to believe it was just water retention.
Yup, it must be.

Headed to Monkey Temple where there are uncountable monkeys around.

This is the World Peace pond,
apparently for people to throw money into and where the monkeys have their drink.
You'll understand later.

View of Thamel:

Transporting stuffs the manual way:

I like the art on the wall.

Existing in harmony:

Now this is an interesting sight for me.
Monkeys having a drink at the World peace pond.
Thirsty monkey is thirsty。
And the baby monkeys are sooo cute beyond words.

K. This one very indifferent when I asked to take a picture.

We went to have our first authentic Nepali meal, caifan style and we really didn't like it.
The food tasted, erm, as good as it looks.

I am sorry to admit,
I love their culture and the country but I really cannot take the food.

After this meal, I was averse to Nepali food and I try to opt for other choices of food whenever possible.

The day ended smashing good with this live band.
I believe I am in love with the drummer,
and the singer,
and the guitarist,
OK OKAY I LIKE ALL OF THEM.

他们就陶醉在自己的音乐当中,
I think that as long as the musicians enjoy themselves fully while playing music and are sincere about their music,
THAT is the greatest music.

No, but really, they are damn good.
They will be the reason I wanna return to Kathmandu.

On another hand, on my last day I wanted to relive this experience but the band wasn't there,
so I went to another bar and listened to another band.
Can you believe the guitarist was watching soccer on the TV while playing music?
Like that might as well don't play. zzzz.
